The knowledge of engineering mathematics forms a foundation for all engineering analysis and design and enables the understanding of mathematic principles and applications within an engineering context.

This course builds on the understanding of basic engineering mathematics by analysing more complicated trigonometric functions and delving deeper into integration techniques.  In addition, new engineering mathematics skills will be covered, including the use of complex numbers, matrices, differential equations, parametric equations, and multivariable functions.

  1. Inverse and hyperbolic trigonometric functions
  2. Complex numbers, and how to use them within calculus
  3. Various integration techniques including integration by parts, trigonometric integrals and substitution, and partial fractions.
  4. Matrices, their properties, and how to use them.
  5. Differential equations and their use.
  6. Parametric equations and polar coordinates.
  7. Multivariable functions and their partial derivatives.
